Better Vision Health With Relaxation Techniques – Listening to Vision Health Signals

Whether or not we are driving, playing sports, working on college assignments, or work projects, we rely greatly on our precious eyesight to accomplish these tasks successfully. Therefore, vision health is an important priority that demands our closer attention. This is the case especially considering the fact that with our increasing reliance on technology, and the stressful demands of the work place, a lot of strain is being imposed on our eyes due to the fact that our lifestyle activities involve a lot of close up work.

As a result of this, there has been a significant increase in vision conditions related to eye strain and other related eye problems. However, did you know these problems can be prevented by paying closer attention to the signals that your eyes are sending you and responding with the appropriate action to correct them? Therefore, here are some helpful tips that would assist you in accomplishing that goal:

According to Duke Peterson, MD, listening to the signals our visual system is sending us, and taking the appropriate action to respond to those signals, can be a good indication as to whether or not we are on the right track in taking care of our eyes.

According to Dr. Duke Peterson, you can ask yourself questions such as: have I been in the habit lately of reading text on a computer or print in a book by staring too hard at the words? Consequently, are the eyes sending you signals in the form of eye strain associated with headaches? Are you concentrating too hard on the work you are performing and blinking less while you are engaged in these particular activities?

More importantly, do you stare at the computer for prolonged periods of time without looking up from your close up work and taking periodic breaks to relax the eyes? If you answered yes to these questions, then there is too much tension and stress in the eyes and the application of a few simple relaxation techniques can correct this problem.

Practice Good Visual Habits: Take periodic breaks from your close up work at every 20 -30 minute intervals to focus on objects in the distance for about 10 seconds. Why? Distance seeing is the natural state of the eyes which is a state of relaxation. Staring at your close up work causes the eyes to send you signals related to dry eye. A solution to this problem is to get into the habit of blinking more frequently in conjunction with deep breathing. Such eye exercises are also helpful in relieving eye strain.

Our eyes send us signals that alert us to the things we need to pay attention to in terms of taking care of our eye health. Engaging in excessive close up work without breaks, staring hard and blinking less, causes our eyes to send us signals related to eye strain accompanied by headaches, dry eye and blurry eyesight.

These signals are an indication that our eye muscles are under way too much strain. Responding to these signals with the right eye relaxation techniques, ultimately, is a practical and effective way to relieve stress and tension in the visual system and do the things we need to do to promote better natural eye health.
